Ian Harley graduated in Medicine from the Queen’s University of Belfast in 1993 (MB BCh BAO). On completion of training in Northern Ireland he then moved to Toronto, Canada to train as a subspecialist in Gynaecological Oncology at the University of Toronto. Ian was appointed as a Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist / Gynaecological Surgeon at the Belfast City Hospital in 2008.
Ian’s main clinical interests include minimal access surgery in Gynaecological Oncology (including laparoscopic surgery / sentinel node biopsy), Human Papilloma Virus in genital tract malignancy and Familial Gynaecological Cancers. Other interests include Minimal Access Surgery in General Gynaecology, Chronic Pelvic Pain, Menstrual Disturnace, Vulval disorders and Postgraduate Education.
David Hunter is a graduate of Queen’s University Belfast (MB, BCh, BAO, 1992). He became a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) in 1998 and was awarded a Medical Doctorate (2004) and Honorary Clinical Lecturer’s position at Queen’s in 2007. He was a Clinical Fellow with the world leading Women’s Endoscopic Laser (WEL) foundation for two years.
His specialist interests are endometriosis and menstrual dysfunction, investigation of recurrent miscarriage and conditions causing chronic pelvic pain. He established the benign gynaecology multidisciplinary team based at the Royal Victoria Hospital where he is the lead clinician for gynaecology services. He is widely published and retains an active interest in medical education and training.
Keith Johnston is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and Minimal Access Surgeon in Antrim Area Hospital. Dr Johnston graduated with honours in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1995.
His post graduate training was in Dublin and Northern Ireland before undertaking a two year advanced laparoscopic gynaecological surgical fellowship in Sydney, Australia. With numerous publications on many aspects of gynaecological surgery, he has also presented, trained and lectured extensively internationally. Areas of special interest include total laparoscopic hysterectomy and laparoscopic pelvic floor repair.
Neil McClure graduated from Queen’s University Belfast and is now Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology there and a consultant at the Royal Jubilee Maternity Service. He has trained in infertility and endocrine medicine in both America and Australia.
He specialises in infertility, tubal surgery (including reversal of sterilisation) and fibroids. He has over 150 publications and currently is Editor-in-Chief of the journal of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
Geoff McCracken is a consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with special interests in advanced pelvic floor surgery and gynaecological cancer at Craigavon Area Hospital.
Geoff is a graduate of Queen’s University Belfast with honours in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He has spent two years training in advanced gynaecological surgery in Toronto, Canada, where he completed a two year clinical fellowship. He has a keen interest in academia, with numerous publications, international presentations and participation in postgraduate teaching.
Margaret Kennedy has been the Andrologist at the Royal Maternity Hospital for 27 years. She is a Member of the Institute of Biomedical Science and a Member of the Association of Biomedical Andrologists. She is also registered with NEQUAS.
Consultant Breast Surgeon, Belfast City Hospital, Belfast
Born and brought up in Aberdeen, Stuart graduated in medicine from the University of Edinburgh in 1993. He undertook his surgical training in Edinburgh and Aberdeen, with periods of research in Glasgow and Cambridge. He underwent further specialist training in Leeds in reconstructive and oncoplastic breast surgery prior to taking up a consultant post in Aberdeen where he worked for several years before moving to Belfast.
Stuart works full time as a specialist breast surgeon, looking after women with breast cancer as well as other breast conditions. His main interests are in oncoplastic breast surgery (using plastic surgery techniques to achieve the best possible results for women undergoing surgical treatment for breast cancer), and breast reconstruction following mastectomy. In addition, he has an interest in the pre-surgical treatment of breast cancer using chemotherapy. He is also actively involved in breast cancer research in Northern Ireland.
Linda Johnston graduated with honours from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1997. She is now a Consultant Radiologist and deputy lead for gynaecology imaging in Craigavon Area Hospital. Dr Johnston offers general radiology services but has a special interest in breast and gynaecological imaging. Her post-graduate training was largely in Northern Ireland, becoming a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) in 2000 and a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists in 2007. She also completed training in England, undertaking a Breast Fellowship at St. George’s Hospital, and Australia where she worked at the Concorde Hospital in Sydney. She has presented extensively at many international meetings in the United States, Australia and Europe.
Dr Johnston has maintained her professional development and expertise through attendance at numerous international courses in general radiology and female imaging including the Stanford University breast MRI course.
Gavin Briggs graduated from Queen’s University, Belfast in 1992. He is now a Consultant Radiologist for the Southern Health and Social Care Trust (Craigavon Hospital). In addition he is Director of Breast Screening for the Southern Trust and Quality Assurance lead for Radiology, Northern Ireland Breast Screening Service. Dr Briggs offers general radiology services but has a special interest in breast and neurological imaging. His post-graduate training was largely in Northern Ireland, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Ireland) in 1996 and a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists in 2004. He also undertook a period of full time research within the Department of Surgery at University College London and was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine in 2003. This research thesis was titled ‘minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment of breast tumours’ and investigated light interaction with breast tissue as well as laser ablation of breast tumours. Through this and subsequent research, he has presented and published widely at both National and International meetings.
Dr Briggs has maintained his professional development and expertise through attendance at numerous international courses in general radiology and breast imaging and recently was part of an expert panel at the Royal College of Radiologists Breast Group, Annual Scientific Meeting.
Dr Agneiszka Zawislak MD MRCOG is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist in the Royal Jubilee Maternity Hospital and an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Queen’s University Belfast.
Dr Zawislak is the Lead Clinician for Intrapartum Care at the Royal Jubilee Maternity Service where her role is focused on improving the safety of pregnancy and delivery for both mother and baby. She offers a comprehensive private antenatal care package including a 3/4D scanning service.

Colman Byrnes graduated from Queens University Belfast in 1993 (MB, BCh, BAO, BSc). He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1997.
His post graduate surgical training was largely based in Northern Ireland with a further four years as a surgical research fellow in the Johns Hopkins University, USA, and a laparoscopic colorectal fellowship in Dublin, Ireland. He was awarded his medical doctorate in 2002.
As a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon in Antrim Area Hospital, his subspecialist interests include colonoscopy, laparoscopic and colorectal surgery.
Dr Hoey graduated in Medicine from Edinburgh University in 1999.
She completed her Dermatology training in Belfast before spending time specialising in Paediatric Dermatology at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London in 2006. She became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2002 and a Fellow in 2010.
She was appointed as a Consultant Dermatologist in the Belfast Trust in 2008 and works in both the Royal Victoria Hospital and Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.
Dr Hoey’s specialist interests include Psoriasis, Atopic Eczema, Vascular birthmarks and the field of Paediatric Dermatology. She co-ordinates the Northern Ireland Multidisciplinary Vascular Anomalies service for adult and paediatric patients with complex vascular birthmarks.
She is very involved in Medical Education and currently is the Northern Ireland Training Programme Director for Dermatology.
Andrew Thompson is a Consultant Paediatrician in the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. He graduated from Queen’s University, Belfast in 1989. He has been a member of the Royal College of Paediatrics since 1996 and obtained a Medical Doctorate degree in 2001. In 2001/2 he spent a further year of obtaining international training in the North American centre of excellence, Toronto Sick Children’s Hospital. His special interests include general paediatric problems such as infants with feeding difficulties as well as children with a range of problems including headaches, recurrent abdominal pain and asthma.
Esther Gribben graduated with a degree in Radiography in 2002 and worked for 2 years in the Royal Victoria Hospital and a further 3 years in the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.
She graduated with a Post Graduate in Medical Ultrasound in 2007 and now works in Laganvalley Hospital as a specialised obsetric ultrasonographer.

Diane McAllister graduated in Honours in Psychology, from Queen’s University, Belfast in 1995.
With an initial background in psychology Diane progressed to adult teaching within the Further Education field. During these years Diane completed her post graduate in Counselling which has led her down this path since 1998.
After working for several different organisations for a number of years, Diane established CORE NI Creative Counselling and Life Coaching in early 2010. This is based in North City Business Centre, in North Belfast.
Over the years, Diane has been fortunate to have acquired a wealth of experience, knowledge and interest in various areas of women’s health. With her numerous years within family planning she has worked with women around many issues.
