Urge incontinence of Urine

This is treated mainly by retraining the bladder by gradually increasing the intervals between passing urine. In addition, tablets may be used to supplement this approach.

Where the bladder is still unstable injection of botulinum toxin into the bladder wall may improve the symptoms. The procedure involves passing a telescope into the bladder. The botulinum toxin is then injected into the bladder lining under direct vision. Although it is a relatively new procedure many patients have had significant improvement in their symptoms. However, this is usually temporary, lasting 6-9 months, and, therefore, treatments are likely to need to be repeated. Complications are rare but include infection, urinary retention and bleeding.
