There are many types of sexually transmitted infections. These infections are passed from person to person during vaginal, anal or oral sex. Women are at particular risk if intercourse has been unprotected (without the use of a condom). Some of these infections can be silent (you are unaware that you have acquired an infection) and you experience no symptoms.  Sometimes these symptoms are transient and mild. Unfortunately sometimes these infections can lead to serious gynaecological problems such as infertility or chronic pain. Common infections include Genital warts, Chlamydia, Herpes, Gonorrhoea, Trichomonas, Syphilis, HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C.  Thankfully many of these infections are treatable.
